Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (D-FMEA) – 8 to 16 Hours

Reliability, quality, consistency and predictability play a major role in the world of product development.  Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (D-FMEA) training shows participants how to use the FMEA tool to get a team’s collective knowledge into a new product design and identify elements that are potential risks.   When used proactively, D-FMEA also helps develop a testing and validation plan that will prevent a design release with flaws.

Workshop versions are available for AIAG 4th edition or the AIAG & VDA FMEA approach.

This workshop is application-based and engages participants through exercises and discussion.  It is appropriate for individuals directly involved in the design of a new product, process or service including product design/development, test engineers, manufacturing/process engineers and quality. The course is also suitable for supervisors, reliability/warranty engineers, and their managers.

One and two-day versions of this workshop are available.  The two-day version permits more application exercise and includes discussion regarding the Process-FMEA and the relationship between the D-FMEA and P-FMEA.

Our D-FMEA workshop teaches participants how to improve product quality through the proper use of the FMEA tool.  The course will describe what an FMEA is, terminology associated with the tool and the proper methodology for developing the D-FMEAs.  It will also address the differences between system, design and process FMEAs and explain how to develop criteria for evaluating the occurrence, severity and detection ratings to discriminate between higher and lower risk design flaws.

• D-FMEA is presented as a tool for robust engineering and Design for Six Sigma.
• Most people think of FMEA as only a ‘document’ for the customer, but participants will see that FMEA is a structured ‘conversation’ that happens to get documented.
• Training demonstrates why FMEA is a powerful analytical tool for identifying and reducing risk.
• Participants will learn how to use FMEA to prioritize and plan countermeasures to negate unwanted effects.
• The training clarifies linkages between D-FMEA and other components of the design process and quality system.
• Participants will see how FMEA is used through the product lifecycle, including during problem solving and warranty analysis, to improve customer satisfaction and ensure safety.

  IATF 16949, and the 4th edition AIAG FMEA guidelines.
