Course Description

Error Proofing prevents errors by monitoring them at their starting point.

While Statistical Process Control (SPC) can indicate a quality confidence level, error proofing is much more robust because it is a control for every part produced (100% control) versus a representative sample of the product.

Error Proofing – 8 to 16 Hours

Error proofing techniques prevent defects by monitoring process conditions that would otherwise lead to problems.  There is a logical, chronological sequence of events from process errors to product defects.  Error proofing along this sequence ensures a high-quality end result.

This workshop is applicable to those directly involved with product production.  Working in small cross-functional teams, participants will apply error proofing methods to their actual work process or a selected problem.

The workshop is typically delivered in two days but can be conducted in one day if the participants have significant prior exposure to root cause problem-solving and/or Process FMEA.

This workshop utilizes training materials developed by The Luminous Group and includes an innovative method for assessing error proofing strategies.  Our ABC approach to error proofing will guide teams in (A) assessing, (B) designing and planning and (C) implementing error proofing strategies.   Additionally, this course will:

• Explain the chronological sequence of errors and defects.
• Identify technical solutions for “at-risk” assembly and manufacturing tasks.
• Involve others in problem-solving and the application of error proofing.
• Incorporate Root Cause problem-solving and Process-FMEA concepts (two day version).
• Introduce poka-yoke techniques as simple aids to control the manufacturing process.
• Provide techniques for assessing, designing and implementing low-cost mistake and error proofing methods.
• Provide suggestions on how to launch a full-scale mistake and error proofing program.
• A variety of low cost, effective error proofing examples are presented.
